Movember: Survey Reveals Impact of ‘No Shave November’ on Men’s Health

Movember brings lots of activity over the social media and health related networks. Most of us are already familiar with what it is, right? Assuming some of us aren’t… let us dig a bit deeper on this upbeat topic!

What is Movember?

A unique campaign for the promotion of men’s health started in 2003 when Adam Garone, along with three other co-founders inspired 30 men to grow their “tashes” for a month and raise funds for the cause. The campaign has matured extraordinarily in the past 11 years and now this charity NGO is ranked among the top 100 on the basis of “impact, innovation, and sustainability.” The campaign now runs in 21 countries around the world.

Garone explains the working of his ‘grassroots organization and movement’ as: “We spend a lot of time thinking (about) how we can engage with the community online and how we can increase the socialization within a country and then globally for this community to come together.” The platform has gradually evolved into a social network; a big, rewarding, network in a small period of time.

The “No Shave November”:

Now, the next sensible question should be what this movement does and why?

That’s simple. Every year, the month of November is celebrated around the world by men and women alike by growing facial hair into a moustache or a full beard, in order to raise awareness and funds. These funds are then utilized to support the men’s health programs, especially, for the victims of prostate and testicular cancers. In US last year, 83.1% of the funds were applied to such life-saving programs.

Normally, the annual campaign ends with parties being held to celebrate the spectacular growth of facial follicles.
